Happy New Year!

Hello folks, I hope the New Year is going well so far. Things have been quiet on The Levee Breaks, I know, but I’ll do a little bit of updating this week and we’ll see where we go from there.

In the meantime, check out our new poll on the right-hand-side. I’m going to let the current one run until the end of the week, then I’ll do a quick summary and change it to something else. Any suggestions?

Levee 2006

At the risk of getting some sharp answers, where do you see The Levee Breaks going in 2006? Are you here for the Northern Ireland debate, the infrequent movie and music reviews, the thoughts on family life, the once-in-a-blue-moon illustrations, the rare Sister In-Law post?

The Levee Breaks is read by folk from all over the world, not just Northern Ireland (although the Norn Irish are the most vocal)! Judging by the patterns in the comments, most of you turn out for the Northern Ireland punditry and maybe some movie review stuff. Anyway, let me know what tickles your fancy and I promise to do my utmost to provide it. Or not. Whatever…

Linking To Levee

If you’ve got your own blog/website, make it your New Year’s Resolution to link to The Levee Breaks! Ah, go on now….even Slugger did it!

And thanks to all those decent bloggers out there who are already linking to us!

Cigarettes and whiskey and wild, wild women !

  2. Happy New Year!

  3. Welcome to 2006 Mr Levee and a happy New Year to all at the Levee team. Congratulations for running an excellent site I wish you continued success and growth for the year ahead.

Madradin Ruad has given his prioritised list for 2006 ;)so I’ll throw in mine. World peace, the irridacition of poverty, a cure for all illness an end to the polution of the planet and a devolution of powers in our Assembly - that will do for starters :)

BTW like your poll section though its not rocket science yet! but it is an experiment in electronic voting.

  4. Parnell: That’s us, leading the field in eGovernment! Although how can we be sure Sinn Fein aren’t stealing all the votes ;)

  5. Parnell - mine is both more realistic anc more fun ;)

Levee - Are you sure Sinn F?in exist as a seperate entity these days ? If the SDLP want some help their next election campaign should be a poster with the Slogan
    Use your Wits
    Don’t vote Brits!

over the scowling fizzogs of Gerry and Martin

  6. Mr Levee: If this proves successful eGovernment you might consider selling the idea to Bertie he’ll buy anything to increase his credibility. Ask for ?50m - if that goes down well ask for ?75m more :)

madradin ruad: Can’t agree - I want to but I can’t!!!!. All that smoking, drinking and wild womanising is O.K. if your single, but if your married and get caught you could find yer doodle dandy dangling from somewhere its not supposed to be…. Ouch ;). Interesting campaign slogan, “Use your wits - Don’t vote Brits”.:)

  7. Hi Levees

Have been spending a very enjoyable half hour reading different aspects of your blog. I think the thing people most appreciate is probably its diversity so I don’t think I should worry about what people want from you so much as what you want to write about!

I followed a link here about Julie McQuillan, the Black Nun (always remember my grandad telling me stories about her when I was young - spooky) but haven’t found it - has it gone?

1 further question - is “Ray” short for something? I have a dear friend in the States who we call Ray (her name is Maraya).

Anyway basically thanks very much for an enjoyable read and all the best to you and the little ones for 2006!

  8. Hi Louise - thanks for the nice comments! I’m glad you enjoyed your visit.

I used to have an article about Bonamargy Friary on here, but I deleted it a while ago during some housekeeping.

Ray is our little girl - short for Rachel, nothing as exotic as Maraya!

  9. Belated Happy New Year to all the Levees!

With regards what I want to see on the site, well, I think you’ve got a pretty good balance so far.

Speaking from personal experience, it’s very easy to fall into the trap of just concentrating on NI politics because that seems to be what most people in our little corner of the blogosphere are most willing to comment about.

But in the end, I think the most important thing is that you enjoy what you’re doing with the site and if that means that writing about which you think only you’d be interested in, do it- you’ll be surprised how much of your loyal readership will keep tuning in.
