I Nominate David Vance For An Irish Blog Award!

I’m sure this is slightly irregular, but EWI from Free Stater suggested it, and I actually agree. As well as myself, I’d like to nominate David Vance for an Irish Blog award.

Reasons? A Tangled Web is one of the most controversial blogs to emanate from the island of Ireland. Yeah, alright, he probably won’t love the reference, but most of us in the North pop in for a chat at least once a week. There are folks who hang out there every day, but some of us have work to do!

EWI thinks David should get Top Irish Blogger. What do you think?

  1. Tut-tut. You may think ATT is ‘controversial’. It’s controversial in the way the BNP is ‘controversial’.
    ATT is a hate-site.
Simply scroll through its sweeping descriptions of entire groups of people as ‘filth’, ’scum’ etc. and you’ll see where I’m coming from.

  2. Fair point Deaglan. I’ve actually pulled David about the ‘hate’ content they’ve posted there in the past, particularly Andrew McCann’s material.

One reason I like the site is that it encourages me to think about my own position on certain topics. In some instances I find myself agreeing with David’s point of view. In places where I disagree with David, it challenges my reasoning and forces me to justify my point. If I’ve arrived at a conclusion wrongly, I need to go away and rethink.

Plus, David has managed to attract quite a decent array of commenters.

Anyway, I think the point of EWI’s original suggestion was simply to wind David up by giving him an Irish award….

  3. I see what you mean Levee, but, sadly, simply can’t agree.
ATT is absolutley vile - and I can dish out and take the rough stuff with the best of them.
Reading stuff like “the nationalist community are immoral shitehawks” or reading a post headlined “Traveller Scum” is not my idea of being challenged.
It’s the kind of s(h)ite that gives the internet and blogging a bad name.
Consequently, giving ATT an Irish award - whether meant in jest or not - is simply giving ATT more publicity. Oh dear.

I’m at fault for starting this, so I’ll explain. There is zero chance of Vance the Pants getting a nomination as best of anything, let alone the Irish blogs - no matter how mush right-wingers down here may love him. Isn’t going to happen.

  5. I got the joke, guys, but I am with Deaglan on this. While there is stuff on there that makes me smile, and also think, I am afraid it is clearly a hate site.
Generally, I try to avoid looking at it.
The knowledge that Andrew McCann works in social care makes me feel very sad indeed.

  6. Mr Levee,

Many thanks for the nomination, I have prepared my acceptance speech - in Ulster Scots naturally - and look forward to the final result!

Two points - it is ATW, not ATT!

Second, hate, like love, is often in the eye of the beholder. We are NOT a hate site, though we hate terrorism, hypocrisy and pomposity!

I appreciate Mr. Levee’s kind words and I am genuinely sorry that others view ATW so badly.

  7. You are joking, Mr Levee? Nominating this monumental xenophobe has to be a joke. his site could make a psychology students final submission an award winner if he was looking for a fascist hate-monger with messianic tendancies to do a profile on. This guy is a right-wing headbanger who uses dismissive or mocking rhetoric to deal with anything approaching political or social debate. The best thing i could say to Davey boy is, “go to America - Fox news awaits!”
