I think the whole situation is pretty embarrassing.

Just a sec, don’t assume all English fans are “ASS HOULS”. Everyone needs to cool down. Both Rooney and Ronaldo have made up and have no problem with each other so why is everyone so heated up about this.
As far as I see it, Rooney was fouled before he stamped on Carvalho, but he still kept on playing. The stamping was unintentional, but even so it was definitely a red card. Perhaps Ronaldo shouldn’t have appealed for a foul the way he did, but they were both rivals on the pitch. This nonsense that Ronaldo convinced the ref to show him a red card is ridiculous. The ref has made it clear that the red card was for stamping and NOT for Rooney pushing Ronaldo. Rooney needs to learn that his aggressive behaviour doesn’t help him and Ronaldo needs to learn that diving tarnishes his reputation.
They are both talented players but need to sort these things out. As far as man u is concerned, Sir Alex Ferguson has made it clear that Ronaldo will be back at Old Trafford. So rather than giving him a hard time and looking for someone to blame for their defeat England fans should get over it and look forward to 2008 and 2010. I am an England and man u fan and I wish the best of luck to both of them at Old Trafford this season. I have to say Portugal did deserve to win the match against France, but never mind. France to win it.

I’m amazed! I read all the 189 comments and I’m amazed, no, I’m stunned! First of all, the football part: I’m a fan, not an expert, but I haven’t seen portuguese players dive more then other teams’ players… And if you English think you lost because of Rooney’s red card, which left you playing with only 10 players, how come Portugal sent Holland home wiyh 9 players (10 during most of the match)? And if you think Ronaldo (a kid) has power to influence the referee, then who did the same in the Portugal-Holland match? Rooney DID step on Ronaldo’s testicles! And worse, he did it on purpose, since he moved his foot BACKWARDS, when the natural move to do, in order to regain balance, would be forward.
As for the game with France: yes, it was a fair penalty, although at first it didn’t seem so. But France did one to, and the referee hasn’t seen it (I prefer to think so). France played well, but DID NOT play better. Both teams played much alike, and France had a bit of luck (of course Zidane is a great player, that goes without saying) because Ricardo saw very well where the ball was going and almost defended it. But, hélas, goals can’t be ALMOST defended.
But the reason I’m amazed has to do with the nature of the comments I read. I already knew that many football fans were very ill-mannered people, violent and brutal thugs, in short. What I didn’t know was that there where so many of them on the Internet. In my mind, the Internet was a place where hate, bigotry and down-to-earth stupidity had no entry. Another broken illusion! Please, use your time in a more intelligent way!

Just a correction: after reading so many times Ronaldo’s name, I wrote: “rooney DID step on Ronaldo’s testicles” when I should, of course, wrote “Carvalho’s testicles”. But I maintain that I think the stepping was intentional.
And I have an idea to offer: I know that FIFA considers that relying on TV cameras to help the referee’s decisions goes against the spirit of the game; I think that the argument is that the game must be decided on the field, by someone that is on the field, with the players. But what about the referee, himself, using a mini-camera (similar to those F1 pilots use on their helmets) that would see - and broadcast, or record - WHAT THE REFEREE SEES? That way, no one could blame the referees for their unintentional mistakes and, at the same time, they would be afraid osf comitting intentional ones. What do you say?
