BookCrossing: Where Is The Best Place To Release The Books?

A few months ago I posted about a fantastic website I had just came across called BookCrossing.

I have finally managed to register some books, and I now intend to release them into the wild.

The only problem is, I don’t know where to leave them. I live in Crumlin, but doubt that anyone around here bookcrosses. I see that someone else realeased one at Junction One, but it has yet to be claimed, so I have ruled that out.

I could get Mr Levee to release them in Belfast after work, but where should he leave them? I know that a few bookcrossers read the blog (Norah, Cybez and Jimmy Porter thats you!) so I would be grateful for any tips or suggestions you may have.

  1. I signed up with bookcrossing ages and ages ago, but haven’t been back in almost as long. though I did release one book, on the Sligo-Dublin train. Whoever found it wasn’t a bookcrosser, last time I logged in.

Must visit the site again and start releasing some, there are plenty I know I won’t read.

As for where, *shrug* that I do not know.

  2. Most books left on trains - if not taken by passengers - will be binned by the cleaners who come on board at each end.

A good place is often to leave them in a hotel or pub that has a pile of books to loan out to customers. Sounds like the kind of thing the John Hewitt would support.

  3. Try to “forget” it in

    the one that Jett(http://lettertoamerica.blogs.com/)Loe frequents

  4. I actully thought of Clements but was worried they would bin them before I could change the status to released on the BC website. I also heard that No Alibis have a bookcrossing shelf…is that right?

  5. Well I released them today. All seven are at No Alibis book shop if anyone is interested.

  6. I love BookCrossing so much, I started an OBCZ where I work.
If not released to this bookshelf, I leave books on public benches, in pubs and supermarket cafes. I also leave them in waiting rooms, vets, dentist etc. The important thing is to put a ‘Free Book’ notice on the front. I make my own and
attach to the book with a paperclip.

  7. I live in New York City, and i’ve started to leave books on
the bus and subways. In the inside cover i ask people to read
the book and return it to the “Bus library”. I have no idea
if anyone actually does this, but i am fascinated to read
that in the U.K.and N.I. that there is a website such as
book crossing.Just thought you might be interested to know,
that you could dispose of books in another manner.
    thanx…Kate
