Get Updates With RSS!

The Levee Breaks publishes an RSS feed to let you know when new articles are posted to the site. If you have an RSS reader program, or you use a free RSS service such as BlogLines, you can get notified as soon as we publish a new article.

What Is RSS?

Back in the old days of the web, if I liked a particular website, I would have to go back to it pretty regularly to check for updates.

Blogs (or Weblogs) have changed all that. Most blogs produce something called an RSS feed which can be accessed by programs and read.

When a blog is updated, the RSS feed gets updated too. RSS readers monitoring the feed will discover the update and notify you, often including a complete copy of the entry to save you having to visit the website.

What About RSS Readers?

There are two varieties of RSS Reader software: the regular program that you install on your PC, and the web-based version that you can access from anywhere with an internet connection.

Software versions include FeedDemon, Newz Crawler and even Mozilla’s Thunderbird email software can read RSS information.

The web-based options are Bloglines, Newsgator and Rojo. Bloglines and Rojo are free

Where Do I Sign Up?

Well, get yourself an RSS reader - I recommend Bloglines, so go and sign up for an account. Under My Feeds, you’ll see an option to Add a new feed. Type http://feeds.feedburner.com/TheLeveeBreaks into the box and follow the instructions.

You’ll soon be up and running.
